The UFC is heading to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on June 25th, and B.J. Penn vs. Dennis Siver is one of several fights confirmed for the event.
If you were wondering whether or not two-division champion and UFC HOFer B.J. Pennwould retire again after his TKO loss to Yair Rodriguez in January, you have you answer. As relayed on UFC Tonight, Penn will be staying at featherweight to take on Dennis Siver at UFC Fight Night in Oklahoma City on Sunday, June 25th. Also announced for the event is a middleweight bout between Johny Hendricks and Tim Boetsch. Neither Penn-Siver nor Hendricks-Boetsch will serve as the main event, but they will both be on the FS1-televised main card.
Penn (16-11-2) has lost his last four fights, including the aforementioned defeat to Rodriguez in the UFC Phoenix main event in January. “The Prodigy” hasn’t beaten anyone since knocking out Matt Hughes in a 2010 welterweight bout. Siver (22-11, 1 NC) last competed in June 2015, losing a unanimous decision to Tatsuya Kawajiri. The 38-year-old was scheduled to face Penn at UFC 199, but pulled out due to injury.
Hendricks (18-6) snapped a three-fight losing skid with a successful middleweight debut, besting Hector Lombard by unanimous decision at UFC Halifax. The former welterweight champion had missed weight in his last two fights in his old weight class. Boetsch (20-11) had a two-fight winning run come to a quick halt last month, as Ronaldo Souza submitted him by kimura at UFC 208. “The Barbarian” said during fight week that the Jacare bout was the last on his UFC contract, so evidently he’s been re-signed.
The other two announced matchups are a strawweight clash between Justine Kish and Felice Herrig and a light heavyweight title between Josh Stansbury and Jeremy Kimball.
By the way, this UFC card will take place one day after Wanderlei Silva vs. Chael Sonnenand Fedor Emelianenko vs. Matt Mitrione headlines Bellator’s PPV in New York.
