B.J. Penn says he doesn’t see how he could turn down a fight at UFC Hawaii

As his career winds down, UFC Hall of Famer B.J. Penn is getting more selective about finding the right opportunities to get back into the cage.

But there’s one potential date for the only man ever to hold both the UFC lightweight and welterweight titles that would be a no-brainer: The UFC’s long-awaited debut in his beloved home state of Hawaii.

With Waianae’s Max Holloway holding the featherweight title, the prospect of a big UFC show at Honolulu’s Alohoa Stadium is as realistic as it’s ever been.

And if such a date does become official, Hilo’s Penn want to be a part of the action.

“I wouldn’t go around talking to the UFC and asking them to get me a fight somewhere, but if something happened and the UFC came to Hawaii,” Penn told Honolulu television station KHON, “I’m still young enough to do it. I don’t see how I can turn that particular fight down.”

Whether he’s a part of the card or not, Penn believes a UFC event in Hawaii would be a top-notch event.

“That would be unbelievable. You see all kinds of rumors and stuff and the last time I was in Vegas I saw the MMA commission from Hawaii and someone representing Aloha Stadium up there so it’s interesting. I would love to see something happen. It would mean everything. Like I said though, I’m not even fighting so maybe I just sit back and watch.”

The 39-year old Penn, who held the welterweight title in 2004 and the lightweight belt from 2008-10, last fought in June when he lost a unanimous decision to Dennis Siver.
