MUAY Thai enthusiasts and athletes alike are now gearing up for the National Muay Thai Open to be hosted at the Baguio Teachers’ Camp this October 27-30.
Organized by the Baguio Muay Thai Association of the Philippines Baguio Chapter, the event is expected to draw fighters from the national team, including locals from the different clubs in Baguio and Benguet.
The event will also see Muay Thai fighters coming from as far as Cagayan De Oro, Cebu, Rizal, Davao, Pangasinan, La Uinion, Ifugao and Mountain Province.
According to Brian Olod, Baguio Chapter president, the event will serve as a qualifying round for the Batang Pinoy and the Philippine National Games to be held on the last week of November until the first week of December.
Although the Philippine Sports Commission earlier announced there will no longer be qualifying rounds for the PNG, Olod stressed this will be a good avenue for the participating coaches and teams to select their representatives.
“This will be a support to the sports grassroots development of the Philippine Sports Commission and the City Government of Baguio aside from the fact that it will be a good exposure to our Muay Thai athletes,” he added.
The event is also co–presented by MAP-Benguet Chapter.
