UNDEFEATED Filipino boxer Ronnie “Jong Jong” Baldonado of MP Davao Gym is fighting for the vacant interim WBO Oriental flyweight title on April 27 in China.
The 21-year old Baldonado (8-0, 5 knockouts) is facing China’s Yi Ming Ma (13-6-0) at the Capital City Gym of Beijing.
“Excited dyud kaayo ko kay mao ni ang akong first fight sa gawas (I’m really very excited because this is my first fight outside)” said Baldonado in an interview at the MP Davao Gym last Saturday.
Baldonado went to China together with his trainer Eubank last Monday.
Baldonado won his last two fights all by knockouts. He stopped Dingdong Quinones in 2:11 of the first round last June 4 at the Almendras gym in Davao City.
He then pummelled to submission Raymond Dayham in 1:17 also in the opening round last December 17 at the Robinson’s Place in General Santos City.
“My lakas ang mga suntok si Baldonado kaya malaki ang pag asa nya sa China,” said chief trainer Raides “Nonoy” Neri.
“Nakita ko rin ang kanyang style sa youtube at pinag aralan ko po talaga siya ng mabuti,” said Baldonado.
Yi Ming Ma, however, is a former WBO Asia Pacific light flyweight champion and WBO China Zone flyweight title holder.
But he only settled to a split draw with another Filipino fighter Jayar Diama (7-9-7, 3 KOs) of Alabel, Sarangani Province last January 30 in Shanghai.
And that was the last outing by Yi. Before that, Yi fought but lost to Randy Petalcorin by a 1st round technical knockout in their battle for the interim WBA world light flyweight title held April 24, 2015 in Beijing, China.
