IBF Welterweight Champion Ivan Baranchyk and his management were quite adamant that “The Beast” was out of the World Boxing Super Series for good and would not face Josh Taylor on May 18th. As it turns out, that may have been a bit premature; Baranchyk’s manager, Dave McWater, says that he will speak to both Comosa AG and the IBF in a conference call tomorrow (April 10th).
The reason for this change of heart?
McWater said the IBF is threatening to strip Baranchyk if they don’t work things out.
Amazing what a little leverage can do.
Baranchyk (19-0, 12 KO) mauled Anthony Yigit in the quarterfinals to claim the title, but his frustration with the tournament’s financial situation and semifinal timetable led to him dropping out in January. The WBSS responded by officially announcing Baranchyk-Taylor for Glasgow on a show that also includes Naoya Inoue vs. Emmanuel Rodriguez.
Baranchyk-Taylor is a great fight, but here’s hoping they can actually come to a mutually beneficial agreement to make it happen.
