The fight between Gervonta Davis and Mario Barrios for the World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Lightweight title to be held on Saturday continues to generate a lot of expectations as the weekend approaches. On Wednesday, Davis and Barrios held an open workout, one of the most interesting activities prior to the showdown.

Both champion Barrios and challenger Davis had the opportunity to perform routines in front of the press, in addition to sharing their impressions of the fight and posing for the photographers and fans.

“I’m excited to be here to give the fans what they want to see, which is an exciting fight. Atlanta showed me love the last time I was here, so why not come back,” said Gervonta.

He also said he knows that facing Barrios is a tough challenge but he feels confident.

“This is one of my toughest fights on paper. I’ll be ready and hopefully, he’ll be ready, too, and we’ll give the fans what they want to see. He’s a young champion. I’ll move up two weight classes to face him. If they don’t respect me after this, I don’t know what I have to do. It’s great. In fact, this is the first time I’ve fought in this weight class. Any opportunity they give me at 135 or 140, I’ll take it,” said the 26-year-old fighter, who is Super Featherweight Super Champion and Lightweight Champion of the pioneer organization.

Barrios, the champion, highlighted the great atmosphere before the fight and that he wants to show a great performance in this new defense of the belt.

“This is all-new, but I’m taking it all in and I’m excited to be in Atlanta. I’m excited to go out on Saturday and give everyone a great fight,” said the “Azteca.”

“Undoubtedly, ‘Tank’ is by far the toughest test for another title defense and I’m going to do whatever it takes to be successful on Saturday,” said Barrios. “I believe that when we are both in the ring people will realize how good I really am at 140 pounds. In some ways, he’s still the favorite, even though he’s the challenger in this fight. I just take it as more motivation for me,” continued the champion.

The final press conference will be held today and tomorrow they will step on the scales, the last step before Saturday’s fight for the black and gold belt.
