Frampton left McGuigan for Frank Warren earlier this year
2017 has not been a good year for Carl Frampton.
After suffering a career-first loss to Leo Santa Cruz in January, Frampton saw a fight with Andres Gutierrez fall apart after Gutierrez got sucker-punched by his own shower. He proceeded to split with longtime promoter Barry McGuigan, sign with Frank Warren, and have a much tougher time than expected against Horacio Garcia earlier this month.
Now he faces a whole new fight: a lawsuit from McGuigan’s Cyclone Promotions.
Frampton’s lawyer confirmed that Cyclone has initiated legal action, but did not specify the grounds on which Cyclone is doing so. One would assume it’s some form of breach-of-contract.
Frampton (24-1, 14 KO) is in need of a big win to reignite his momentum and, at 30, can’t really afford to get locked up in litigation for months on end. Here’s hoping they manage to resolve this or, at the very least, let Frampton stay busy while they work it out.
