Undefeated World Boxing Council lightweight champion Mikey Garcia was hoping to fight in the third quarter of 2017 but his plans have changed and now he won`t return to the ring until January 2018, due to an incompatibility of dates with North American television.
Mikey (37-0, 30 KOs) has had a great 2017, winning the WBC lightweight title by knocking out Montenegrin Dejan Zlaticanin at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Then in July, he climbed up a division to dominate former world champion Adrien Broner at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
The WBC, in its recent convention held in Baku, Azerbaijan, ordered the fight between Garcia and Venezuelan Jorge Linares, who won the Diamond belt and comes from defeating former Olympic champion Luke Campbell.
