Featherweight prospect Aaron Pico and heavyweight veteran Cheick Kongo headlined a list of seven fighters to be issued potential six-month medical suspensions in the aftermath of Bellator 199. The California State Athletic Commission released the event’s finalized medical suspension report to MMA Fighting on Wednesday.
Pico and Kongo both scored first-round knockout wins on the main card of Bellator 199, defeating the likes of Lee Morrison and Javy Ayala respectively. As a result of potential injuries sustained in the contests, both fighters will be forced to seek doctor’s clearance (left hand for Pico, left distal fibula for Kongo) or sit out 180 days before returning to active competition, per commission officials.
Bellator 199 took place May 12 at the SAP Center in San Jose, Calif. The night’s main card aired live on Paramount Network.
