Bellator 206 results: Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson finishes Wanderlei Silva in second

It took 15 years to get there, but Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has pulled even in his legendary series with Wanderlei Silva.

The former UFC light heavyweight champion defeated his former PRIDE 205-pound counterpart in their fourth career meeting via second-round TKO on Saturday night at Bellator 206. The time of the finish of the co-feature bout at SAP Center in San Jose was 4:32 of round two.

With that, “Rampage” tied their series at two apiece.

“All the respect in the world for Wanderlei,” Jackson said after his 24th career stoppage victory.

The 40-year-old Jackson weighed in at 254.4 for the heavyweight bout, nearly 30 pounds above the 42-year old Silva’s 226.9.

And while the action was slow moving, it was spirited for what it was. Silva, stuck with the game plan of his days of old and fearlessly waded in to throw big bombs. Jackson, for his part, would initiate the clinch whenever Silva landed, and punished his foe on several occasions with big knees to the body.

By the second, Silva was still landing often enough to keep Jackson honest, but it was clear Jackson was taking over. The beginning of the end came when Jackson landed a left to the jaw followed by a right which landed flush on the face. A second right dropped Silva and led to a flurry which ended things.

“He rocked me, my chin was tested tonight,” Jackson admitted. “I know Wanderlei can hit hard. When he touched me this time, I had a flashback to when he rocked me in Japan.”

Jackson (38-13) snapped a two-fight skid. Silva dropped to 35-14-1 (1 NC) and is 0-2 since coming out of a long retirement last year.

Silva took bouts between the two in PRIDE in Japan in 2003 and 2005, while Jackson took their third fight at UFC 92.
