Ben Askren on Colby Covington: He’s a ‘poor man’s version of me’

Ben Askren throws shade at Colby Covington on social media.

Although he never got the chance to compete in the UFC, former ONE FC and Bellator champion Ben Askren is still regarded as one of the best welterweights in the world and believes he’s a top pound-for-pound fighter.

Some fans, however, believe No. 1 UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington is the better fighter, which prompted ‘Funky’ to mock ‘Chaos’s’ accomplishments on social media.

Askren, who is undefeated at 18-0, ridiculed Covington’s submission game and called the proud American a ‘poor man’s version’ of himself.

Covington is usually the one who initiates trash talk, so it will be interesting to see how the controversial welterweight responds to Askren online.

Covington is teased to challenge Tyron Woodley for the welterweight title at UFC 230 on Nov. 3, although nothing has been confirmed. Woodley, a teammate and friend of Askren’s, successfully defended his title against Darren Till this past weekend at UFC 228 and rightly earned his position as one of the best welterweights of all time.

Askren, 34, retired after his first round TKO win over submission artist Shinya Aoki at ONE Championship 64 but has teased of a ‘superfight’ with former UFC two-division champ, Georges St-Pierre.
