Benavidez: I’ve been training like an animal, will tear Gavril apart!

David Benavidez talks about his upcoming title defense against Ronald Gavril next month.

Fight Hub’s Marcos Villegas talks to WBC super middleweight titlist David Benavidez as he gets set to rematch Ronald Gavril on Feb. 17 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Check out what he had to say…

Benavidez on what it meant to become world champion in his first fight with Gavril:

“It meant so much, you know what I mean, everything I worked for my whole life. It took me so much hard work and dedication to get there so it meant the world to me — my dream come true.”

On how he’s been able to achieve the success he has with only a background of 10 amateur fights:

“You know, the desire. The desire I had in me to become a champion…I never really worked on the amateur style because you don’t sit down on punches, but I been boxing since I was three years old…”

On how he would describe his 2017 campaign:

“It was just a great year for me and my family…I brought some nice highlights to the boxing world, to the fans of boxing. I’m very grateful for all the fans I’ve had, you know, I’ve worked hard to get where I’m at and all the people who support me are really appreciated. It just gets better from here…”

On if he feels he needs to do anything different in this Gavril rematch:

“I don’t feel like I have to do anything different but there’s a lot of things I could’ve capitalized [on] from his style, you know what I mean? So now that strategy is for me and my team to know. But I’m going in there, I’m working like an animal for this camp…I have a whole lot to prove, I feel like I’m gonna go in there and I’m gonna tear him up, I’ma knock him out.”

On why he ripped Gavril’s face off of the WBC belt:

“I would get tired of seeing his face on my belt. I’m leaving the Mandalay Bay with the belt on my shoulder and I don’t want him to be anywhere near my belt, you know what I mean? That’s why I’ma knock him out, he’s never gonna touch this belt.”
