David Benavidez and Rogelio “Porky” Medina will have a WBC super middleweight elimination bout on May 20 in the main event of a Premier Boxing Champions’ showing at the Laredo Energy Arena in Laredo, Texas.
“This is a great opportunity for me,” said Benavidez. “I’ve been working really hard and I’m not going to let this opportunity pass, I’m going to go win this fight I do not feel pressure with this being an eliminator I’m training very hard for any other fight I’m ready to go and do it Which I always do. ”
Benavidez (17-0, 16 KO), 20, hopes to become the youngest super middleweight champion in the division.
The winner of Benavidez-Medina will come much closer to becoming the mandatory challenger for whoever wins the vacant world title fight between Englishman Callum Smith (22-0, 17 KO) and Anthony Dirrell (30-1-1, 24 KO) from Flint, Mich., A former world champion.
