Bob Arum talks Pacquiao-Lomachenko, Canelo-Golovkin, and Joshua-Wilder

NEWSFLASH: Manny Pacquiao wants no parts of Terence Crawford. As if any one of us didn’t know that by now, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum went on SiriusXM Boxing radio to confirm that lil’ tidbit as well as give his thoughts on a couple other potentially big fights.

Starting with Pacquiao, Arum said:

“I can’t talk about what Manny wants. He has absolutely no interest in fighting Crawford. He told me that himself. And the guy he’s looking to fight is Lomachenko at 135lbs. He says he can get down to 135lbs.

“[I’d make that fight]. Sure, why not.”

Then talking about the Canelo-Golovkin rematch situation, Arum suggests that the second fight should happen but that it should only be a 55-45% split in Canelo’s favor as the bigger star attraction.

“I think that the split — but again, that’s the way I look at it — Canelo should get a bigger percentage, but not 65-35. Probably should end up 55-45 Canelo’s way because there’s no question that Canelo with his big Hispanic following is the A-side, in the sense that he brings more eyeballs to the event than GGG…”

Finally, seguing to the Anthony Joshua vs. Deontay Wilder negotations, Arum then had this to say:

“As far as the Wilder-Joshua fight is concerned, I think that Wilder should look at the money that Matchroom is offering him and make the fight in England because it makes the most sense that they place in England. Joshua has proven to be a tremendous draw — he did 80,000 for the Joseph Parker fight, 90,000 when he fought a previous fight, and so he’s shown the ability to draw extraordinarily well.

“Wilder hasn’t had that opportunity. Wilder, I think, needs the chance to fight Joshua to establish supremacy. I think Joshua’s the better fighter but Wilder is in it because he has such a tremendous punch. So I think that the Wilder people have to be reasonable and they should make a deal with Matchroom for the right price.”
