Mixed martial arts (MMA) veteran Bobby Green has put an end to his career after losing a unanimous decision to Drakkar Klose last night (Sat., Dec. 15, 2018) at UFC on FOX 31 from inside Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin,
Green, who was trying to win his second fight of 2018 after capturing a decision win over Erik Koch back in January, announced his retirement from MMA in a post-fight Instagram video post that has since been deleted.
“It is an interesting world we live in,” said Green. “I felt I won but when we got these judges, you know. I think I’m done. I think I’m done. I’m going to retire. I’m going to focus on my kids. Focus on their upbringing. We give a lot of time away for this sport from my family. I’m done. Thank you all for supporting me. I retire.”
“I don’t have to deal with the (expletive) judges or deal with some of the lifestyle that comes with this,” he continued. “Thank you all for your support. I will be deleting all my social media, and I’m done. But thank you so much. I hope I inspired someone to do some thing. It’s an honor and a blessing to have done this. Love you.”
Green leaves behind a 24-9-1 professional MMA record, while capturing the King of the Cage (KOTC) lightweight and junior welterweight titles along the way. Having competed in such promotions as UFC, Strikeforce, and the aforementioned KOTC, Green was able to capture key victories over the likes of Josh Thompson, Pat Healy, James Krause, Daron Cruickshank, and Charles Bennett.
At just 32 years of age there’s a chance Green could come back to fighting in the future. But after dropping four out of his last six following a four-fight win streak to begin his UFC career, “King” seems content to put his crown down and walk away from the sport.
