DAVAO CITY – Upcoming Jeronil Borres of Cagayan de Oro City will be challenging reigning International Boxing Federation (IBF) Youth flyweight champion Iwan Zoda of Indonesia on December 6 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The 12-round championship is promoted by Robert Simangunsong with Rosa Kusuma as the matchmaker.
Borres has a record of 7 wins with 5 knockouts and only 1 loss and 1 draw while Zoda has 11 wins with1 loss and 10 knockouts.
The 20-year old Borres, however, previously lost Richard Claveras (16-2-2) by a controversial majority decision in their battle for the interim OPBF flyweight title last September 30 at the Strike Coliseum in Bacoor, Cavite.
“Akala ko talaga panalo ako doon sa laban naming. Sige lang babawi na lang ako sa susunod kong laban,” (I really thought that I won that fight. I will just take it back in my next fight) said Borres, who is training at the Highland Boxing Gym in La Trinidad, Benguet.
Borres’ last victory was a unanimous decision against JevenVillacite held on February 20 at the Taguig Sports Complex in Taguig City.
Zoda, on the other hand, won the vacant IBF Youth flyweight title via a 3rd round technical knockout win on the-undefeated Szilveszter Kanalas last April 2 at the Pangsuma Stadium in Pontianak, Indonesia.
Zoda, 20, later scored two straight knockout wins against Jack Langoni Timor (2nd round) and KajonsakPothang (3rd round).
Zoda also captured the interim WBO Asia Pacific flyweight title via a 12th round TKO win against then undefeated Petchchorhae Kokietgym (13-0-0) last September 4, 2015 in Bangkok.
