T.J. Dillashaw’s rivalry with Cody Garbrandt might have reached its conclusion at UFC 227, but the reigning bantamweight champion has already found himself targeted by another up and coming prospect – and he’s not even an MMA fighter.
Shortly after Dillashaw’s big knockout win over Garbrandt last week, two-time super featherweight boxing champion Gervonta Davis (20-0, 19 KOs), who fought on the undercard of last year’s MayMac extravaganza, called out Dillashaw on Twitter.
After Davis clarified that he wanted to fight TJ in the Octagon, the two got into a bit of a spat on social media, with ‘Tank’ claiming that he would KO Dillashaw under MMA rules.

If he dares to step in the octagon I would love to show him how my shin taste! Think he’s a over rated boxer as well with that padded record and I beat him in the ring. @Gervontaa I ain’t scared

Given Davis’ lack of MMA experience, it’s highly unlikely that Ultimate Fighting Championship would even consider booking a crossover fight vs. Dillashaw. But in the era of the money-fight, anything is possible. Last year, former UFC lightweight and featherweight champ Conor McGregor made his boxing debut against none other than Floyd Mayweather Jr., losing via 10th-round TKO at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena.
Dillashaw, however, is much more likely to defend his bantamweight title against a top MMA contender, with the defending champ teasing of a possible rematch with Dominick Cruz.
