BRAEKHUS AND REIS SHARP IN OPEN MEDIA WORK OUT PRIOR TO HBO FIRST

By WBCboxing.com

The only undisputed world champion in Boxing Cecilia Braekhus, will defend her female welterweight crowns against former world middleweight champion Kali Reis, in an extravaganza,  led by Gennady “GGG” Golovkin Vs  Vanes “The Nightmare” Martirosyan.

Both world championship duels will be televised live on Saturday, May 5 by HBO on its “World Championship boxing” program from the StubHub Center in Carson California starting at 11:00 p.m.

“This fight is very important for my career and for women’s boxing in general, because we hope that it opens doors for women’s boxing on HBO and the United States where the recognition of our talent has been a little slow,” said Cecilia Braekhus.

“The fight against Kali is going to be tough, and accordingly I have prepared very well to win it.  I want it to be an emotional fight with a lot of action, but also to emerge with my arm held aloft.   It’s important to win but I also want to give a great show,” Breakus added.

Braekhus (32-0, 9 KOs), originally from Cartagena, Colombia, but resident of Bergen, Norway is trained by former world champion Lucia Rijker. She`s determined to extend her fantastic streak of 22 successful world championship defences in her nine-year reign, by defeating Reis (13-6-1, 4 KOs) of Providen, Rhode Island, in a world championship bout set for 10 rounds.

“Being part of this card is an honor and I want to make myself known in the United States. So  we have to take advantage of this great opportunity on HBO to show the talent that exists in women’s boxing,” added Braekhus.

For her part Reis commented: “I have followed Cecilia’s career for a long time and I know she is considered the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world and it is a challenge for me.  I am ready to face and to defeat her this Saturday night. It`s such a great honor to be part of this first fight that HBO will televise, but the most important thing is to give a great fight so that women’s boxing begins to be recognized in the United States as it is in other parts of the world.

“One of my favorites was Julio Cesar Chavez and I recognize the importance of May 5 for boxing fans and the importance of giving great fights on this date.”
