During his stay in Europe, the President of the World Boxing Council Mauricio Sulaimán, met Roy Larner, a 47-year-old man who was unfortunately a victim of a terrorist attack, and suffered serious injuries successfully saving the lives of others.
The awful events took place at the Back & Blue restaurant in London’s Borough Market when three men burst in, attacking customers. The people – as expected – began to run in all directions, to get safety, but Roy Larner did not escape or seek refuge! On the contrary, he stayed put, standing his ground, magnificently helping to evacuate people in the face of terrible imminent danger. Unarmed, confronted and attacked by the terrorists, despite receiving multiple knive wounds, Roy saved lives.
After learning of this inspiring story of selfless and tremendous heroism Mauricio Sulaiman presented Roy with a WBC medal as a recognition of his fantastic and resolute courage in helping others.
Roy’s unflinching action of sheer courage, saving lives, clearly shows the goodness and valiant behaviour of a man, who in spite of the grave risk, immediately disregarded tremendous danger to help others.
At the WBC, we want to recognize, applaud and praise the wonderful and brave actions of Roy who proved the validity of the Red Badge of Courage!
