Brazilian prospects Geraldo de Freitas, Felipe Colares meet at UFC Fortaleza

Geraldo de Freitas and Felipe Colares will make their Octagon debuts on less than two weeks’ notice.

The pair of prospects have signed with the UFC and will collide in a bantamweight bout at the upcoming UFC Fortaleza event in Ceara, Brazil, on Feb. 2, sources confirmed to MMA Fighting following a report by CombatePsicoticos por VT first reported de Freitas’ signing.

“Cabocao” and “Espartano” have made MMA Fighting’s annual Brazilian prospect list in 2018 and 2019, respectively, and enter the eight-sided cage riding long winning streaks.

de Freitas, 11-4 as a professional fighter, is a former Shooto Brazil bantamweight champion who won six in a row, including a decision over one-time Bellator veteran Zeilton Rodrigues.

Colares, unbeaten in eight professional bouts, hasn’t fought since claiming the Jungle Fight featherweight gold in September 2017. “Caboca” finished seven of his opponents, five in the opening round.

UFC Fortaleza takes place at the Centro de Formação Olímpica on Feb. 2 and airs live on ESPN+. The complete fight card can be seen below.
