Welshman Brett Johns has taken note of the California State Athletic Commission’s recommendation that he should move up a weight division to featherweight, but plans to remain at bantamweight for the foreseeable future.

CSAC recommended that both Johns and UFC flyweight Alex Perez move up a weight class following UFC 227, which was initially reported by MMA Fighting.

The MMA world marveled at John’s durability as he waded into exchanges against Pedro Munhozat UFC 227 despite being dropped on a number of occasions during their clash.

Reacting to CSAC recommendation, Johns claimed that although he will consider the move up to featherweight in the future, bantamweight will remain his home for the time being.

“Yes, we have been recommended to move up a weight division [by CSAC],” stated Johns in a comment released to MMA Fighting. “I have spoken with my coaches, and potentially in a few years featherweight would be a division that I see myself competing at.”

Although he sees the featherweight class in his future, Johns underlined that he has never had any medical difficulty reaching the bantamweight limit as a UFC fighter and insisted that he still feels “fantastic” competing at the weight class.

“For now, bantamweight is my division,” Johns said. “I completely understand why CSAC would like us to move up a division but I’ve been cutting weight like this since my UFC debut, not once have I been hospitalized or have I had issues making the weight since signing with the UFC. Granted, I’ve had issues before, but they are in the past now. I feel fantastic at bantamweight.”
