A new WBC Silver Flyweight Champion was crowned in Vienna, when Ana “La Bronca” Arrazola defeated “Raging” Raja Amasheh by close unanimous decision.
It was declared open warfare from the outset, right up to ten bells, with Amasheh moving forward most of the time, but Arrazola landing lots of clean counter punches. Southpaw “La Bronca” made especially good use of her left uppercut, which she often landed at will.
In a tough fight, with some full and frank exchanges, the ladies clashed heads numerous times but, luckily neither got gashed. Referee Bela Florian had her work cut out, separating them from a multitude of clinches.
After four rounds, judge Fabian Guggenheim had Raja up 39-37 while Esa Lehtosaari and Olena Pobyvailo both had it even at 38-38. “La Bronca” was the more active fighter in the middle rounds, earning a lead on all three cards by the second open scoring announcement after round 7 (67-66 on two cards, 68-65 on the third).
Amasheh tried her level best to turn it around, but Arrazola jealously defended her close, but decisive lead, earning the unanimous decision win. Judges Guggenheim and Pobyvailo both had it 96-94 for the Mexican, Lehtosaari gave it 97-93 for “La Bronca.”
An array of WBC champions were in attendance to support “Raging” Raja. Unified Featherweight champ Jelena Mrdjenovich flew in all the way from Edmonton, Canada, and sat next to World super middleweight Champion Nikki Addler, newly crowned Silver Minimumweight Champ Tina Rupprecht and former three-time World super middleweight Champion Markus Beyer.
