Love him or hate him, Adrien Broner sure knows how to draw attention. Not only did Broner put asses in the seats of the Barclays Centers this past weekend, he also had viewers tuning in on Showtime.
According to Nielsen Media Research, via ESPN, Broner’s headlining fight against Jessie Vargas averaged 782,000 viewers while peaking at 891,000. For a fighter who is thought to have plateaued some time ago and was coming off a loss, that was sufficient enough to make it the second most watched fight on premium network television this year (falling shy of Deontay Wilder vs. Luis Ortiz which averaged over 1 million viewers).
So win, lose, or draw, Broner continues to be a major asset to Showtime Sports. His loss against Mikey Garcia last year ended up being the network’s most watched fight of 2017, and these current ratings will guarantee he’ll be back for more in the near future.
Additionally, the co-feature bout between Jermall Charlo and Hugo Centeno Jr. averaged 545,000 viewers while the opening act between Gervonta Davis and Jesus Cuellar averaged 460,000 viewers — the best ratings for both Charlo and Davis for any of their Showtime fights
