The difficulties of finding fights continue for UFC bantamweight Bryan Caraway.
Since his upset win over Aljamain Sterling this past May, Bryan Caraway has had difficulties finding fights — more specifically, having potential opponents sign the dotted line.
After B.J. Penn fell out of his UFC Fight Night 97 main event fight opposite Ricardo Lamas due to injury, Caraway offered to step up in weight and fight Lamas on 10 days’ notice, but the UFC instead decided to cancel the card.
He was once again willing to fight Lamas at UFC Fight Night 98 next month, but it was a no-go. Charles Oliveira was booked to fight the featherweight contender, not Caraway.
Most recently, Caraway has been targeting fellow top contender John Lineker.
“It will be a barn burner. We both won’t go backwards, which means fireworks and action,” Caraway told BloodyElbow.com.
In a recent tweet, Caraway appeared confident that Lineker is willing to sign the contract to fight him. However, there have yet to be any talks about the fight, according to him. In the same tweet, Caraway said that he is “so frustrated.”
He later elaborated why that is the case.
“Because I want that fight and it’s not happening,” he said.
He’s not ruling out the Lineker fight, however — far from it. He plans to fight for it as much as possible.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen.”
Caraway (21-7) has won two in a row. In his last fight, he skyrocketed through the bantamweight rankings with a split decision win over the then-undefeated Sterling, a highly-touted up-and-comer. Prior to that, he had been sidelined since July 2015, when he defeated Eddie Wineland by decision. His last loss was to top contender Raphael Assuncao over two years ago.
