The 4th Annual Green Belt Challenge hosted by the World Boxing Council, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, U.P.A.C. and USA Boxing was a noted success.
With hundreds of boxers, and thousands attending during this three day show, The Green Belt Challenge is one of the biggest shows in the United States. There were boxers competing from all over the U.S. including Georgia, New York, Texas, Massachussets, Arizona and even Tahiti!
This completely free show for all boxers and their families, provides a healthy, fun and positive atmosphere for everyone to enjoy. World Champions and prospects stopped by to enjoy the three day extravaganza including, Leo Santacruz, Lucas Matthysse, Israel Vazquez, Mia St. John, Mariana “La Barby” Juarez, Sindy Amador, Aaron McKenna, Chango Carmona, Jose Armando Santacruz, Jose Balderas, Jousce Gonzalez, Joet Gonzalez, Oscar Negrete, Daniel Franco and many more!
All participating boxers received free Boxing gear and backpacks with goodies.
The 4th Annual Green Belt Challenge had two ELITE bouts this year which were a huge hit on the last day as Iyana “ROXY” Verduzco faced Merari Vivar and Ezequiel Matthysse faced Jerry Bradford. Two competitive and exciting fights and a capacity audience.
A few of the highlights were when Former WBC Champion Mia St. John and current WBC World Bantamweight Champion Mariana “La Barby” Juarez presented the winner, Roxy Verduzco with the WBC Amateur Champion belt and medals.
For the men, Former 3x World Champion Israel Vazquez, World Champion Lucas Matthysse and Former fighter Daniel Franco presented Ezequiel Matthysse with his WBC Amateur Champion belt. From one generation to another. We thank 2nd place winners Merari Vivar and Jerry Bradford for their great performance in these Elite bouts.
Honored at the 4th Annual Green belt Challenge was Jose Santacruz, father of Leo Santacruz, Daniel Franco, former fighter who was in a coma one year ago. The family of the late Cesar Diaz was also present. Cesar was a huge supporter of the Green belt Challenge and showed up every year to support. U.P.A.C. President Tony Campbell who is a huge part of why this Show has been supported by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s department.
After three days with more than 250 boxers and over 120 bouts, here are your 2018 Green belt Challenge WBC Amateur Champions: Karma Burris, Leonardo Ruvalcaba, Brian Velasquez and Meryland Gonzalez!
On behalf of WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman, Sheriff Jim McDonnell and the entire Green belt Challenge team, we thank all the boxers, gyms, family and friends who came to support the Show. This was the largest one yet and we are ready for an even bigger show next year with two rings and more surprises.
