WBA/WBC middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs) moved up a division to dethrone WBA super middleweight champion Rocky Fielding (27-1, 15 KOs) by third round KO on Saturday night before 20,112 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
The much shorter Canelo went to work right away dropping Fielding in round one with a crunching left hook to the body. Rocky was down a second time in round two from another Canelo left hook to the body. Canelo continued to overwhelm Fielding dropping him twice in the third, finishing him with a left hook to the body. The referee waved off the bout at 2:38 of the third. With the win, Canelo becomes one of four Mexicans to win world titles in three different weight classes.
