Canelo Alvarez doesn’t hide the fact that Gennady Golovkin and his team have ruffled his feathers by accusing him of being a drug cheat, but says he’ll be using that anger to focus in the gym so that he can put on a better performance in their September 15th rematch in Las Vegas.
“I’m very bothered, and I’m angry at their accusations (he intentionally used Clenbuterol), but I will utilize it in my favor because I have experience in this,” said Canelo.
“I know that, if I get angry and closed minded, that I might make some mistakes, and it will be wrong. So I’m going to use this in my favor to train harder to give that extra push, and I’m going to use that anger intelligently in my favor on September 15.”
Canelo continues by mentioning that he knows his supporters to continue to have his back in the midst of this PED controversy before he goes on to say that he proved to Golovkin he can handle his power in their first meeting. With Canelo rating Golovkin’s power as ‘respectable,’ but nothing more, he has little concerns about this rematch.
And if anyone has any worries about potential ring rust, with Canelo having been out of action for a year, he assures everyone that the time off hasn’t affected him at all. In fact, he says he stays in training so he’s fully confident that he’ll be at peak form come fight night.
