By Morgan Lopes: Saul Canelo Alvarez looks absolutely shredded and super fast ahead of his rematch against Gennady Golovkin this Saturday night. In a short video clip, the 28-year-old Canelo showed off his blazing hand speed which is reminiscent of a prime Manny Pacquiao from 10 years ago.
This fight could be a massacre if the much slower Golovkin comes straight Canelo looking to punch with him like many people think he’s going to do. Canelo’s hand speed is too forbidding for GGG to slug with him in the rematch.
With the speed that Canelo is showing now, he could land seven punches for every shot that Golovkin throws. Golovkin was almost knocked out by Kell Brook when he hit him with a 4-punch combination in the 2nd round in 2016. If Canelo unloads on Golovkin with a flurry of shots, it’s not going to end well for the Kazakhstan superstar.
Golovkin (38-0-1, 34 KOs) be in trouble on Saturday night. Canelo’s hand speed and his smaller size is going to bring completely new element to the second fight than what the Kazakhstan fighter saw in his first fight with the Golden Boy phenom last year.
This fight promises to be much different than the first one largely due to Canelo no longer having any fear of slugging with Golovkin. Canelo now knows that Golovkin is too slow to beat him, and he doesn’t possess the hand speed to stand and trade with him. Even Golovkin knows this. In the first fight, because he didn’t even try to mix it up with Canelo in a real way like he’d one against his previous 37 opponents. Canelo seemed to understand that by late in the fight. That’s why he attacked GGG and was battering him in the championship rounds.
In the video, Canelo looks a lot thinner than he’ll be on Saturday night. Boxing fans need to understand that Canelo has already started to strip weight off to make weight for Friday’s weigh-in. Canelo has to start early in losing water weight because he likely needs to lose at least 20 pounds to get down to the 160 pound limit for the fight. That’s too much weight for Canelo to take off in the last three days of the fight, which is why hes already starting the process of taking it off.
Golovkin needs to decide what he’s going to do when he discovers that he’s too
slow to trade with Canelo. It could be hazardous to Golovkin’s health if he wades in hoping to KO Canelo. It’s not going to end well for Golovkin if he goes to war with Canelo. With Canelo looking as fast and shredded as he is now, he could make quick work of GGG.
