How did Canelo’s team know it was a draw before scores read?

In a short video clip taken moments after the Saul Canelo A lvarez vs. Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin fight on September 16th last year in Las Vegas, Golden Boy Promotions president Eric Gomez was seen talking to GGG’s trainer Abel Sanchez and telling him that the fight was scored as a 12 round draw.

The video looks bad with Gomez telling Sanchez what the results are before it’s officially announced.

What’s unclear is how Gomez knew what the results of the fight were before the judges’ scorecards had been read aloud by the announcer at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas?

With all the controversy with the scoring of the fight, it looks odd that Gomez would know what the results were before they were announced. It makes the fight look like it wasn’t on the level. How would Gomez know the results of the fight were? It gives the Canelo-GGG fight a professional aspect to it. The judges scored the fight 118-110 for Canelo, 115-113 for Golovkin and 114-114.

Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez seems to be disgusted after being told by Gomez what the results of the fight were.

Eric Gomez: “How do you feel?

Golovkin: “Fine!”

Eric Gomez : “A draw”

Abel Sanchez: “Who needs that? Boxing needs that.”

Eric Gomez: “A draw.”

Abel Sanchez: “A [expletive] draw?”

When you see Gomez telling Abel Sanchez what the results of the fight was before it’s even announced, it looks almost sinister You hate to see stuff like this because it makes it look like the fight wasn’t on the level. You want to believe it’s a legitimate fight, but when you see stuff like this video, it looks bad. A lot of boxing fans already believe Golovkin will have knock Canelo out to get a win in their rematch on May 5th, and it shouldn’t have to be that way. If it’s a sport, then Golovkin should have a chance of winning the fight by a decision if he shows – once again – that he’s the better fighter of the two.

Looking at the video of Gomez looking almost happy, telling Sanchez that the fight is a draw, it makes one wonder whether Golovkin ever had a chance to win the fight. I saw a look of happiness on Eric Gomez’s face as well as embarrassment. How would he know that results though? It makes the Canelo-GGG fight look like a farce. If it’s normal for Golden Boy to be told what the scorecards are at the end of fights, then that’s understandable that Gomez would know the results of the fight. But given the controversy surrounding the oddball 118-110 score in Canelo’s favor with one judge and another judge scoring it 114-114, it makes the fight look like it wasn’t on the level.
