DAVAO CITY – Southpaw Joey Canoy of Gen. Santos City arrived in South Africa last May 16 without a quarantine.

The 27-year-old Canoy arrived together with his trainer Ronerex Dalut at the East London Airport and were met by promoter Ayanda Matiti

“OK lang wala me gi quarantine (It’s OK not to quarantine)”, said Canoy.

Canoy (16W-4L-1D, 9KOs) will fight against Nhlanhla Tyirha of South Africa for the vacant World Boxing Association Inter-Continental light flyweight title on May 21 at the International Convention Centre in East London.

Canoy has no problem with his weight as he tipped the scales before he left the country at 107 lbs.

“108 lbs. among dulaan (108 lbs. our fight)”, said Canoy.

The official weigh-in will be on May 20. The food is free from the promoter.

Canoy did some jogging and light exercise already.

“Kay wala man problema sa timbang (Because there is no weight problem)”, he said.

Canoy and Dalut only go out their room for jogging.

“Sakto ra man akoa timbang. Kaon rako tinapay patatas mao rana (I have the right weight. I only eat bread and potato)”, said Canoy.

Tyirha (4W-1L-0D, 2KOs), on the other hand, recently

Suffered a loss by a unanimous decision to Nkosinathi Joyi* for the WBO Africa light flyweight title last April 28, 2019, in East London.

He earlier won the South Africa light flyweight title by knocking out Bongani Silila in the 3rd round in East London.

The Canoy-Tyirha bout serves as the main supporting bout of the main event featuring IBO world minimumweight champion Nkosinathi Joyi against Ayanda Ndulani for the first title defense.
