“CAPITOL OF CHAMPIONS”

The World Boxing Council it is proud  to be actively involved in the historic Zocalo Boxing Bonanza presented by the Mayor of Mexico City Dr. Miguel Angel Mancera.

This will be the first occasion in which this historic venue will host a boxing match with WBC world championships on the line,  this majestic venue distinguished by the downtown Metropolitan Cathedral, the National Palace and the Old City Hall.

Mexico City is known as and Sports Capital and it`s hosted:  Formula 1 Grand Prix, an official NFL football game, Home Run Derby of  Major League Baseball, Official NBA Basketball Games, PGA Golf Tournament, pay-per- view cards  of the UFC at the Mexico City Arena and now…. a boxing event endorsed by the World Boxing Council with contested WBC world titles.

Dr. Miguel Angel Mancera was recognized by the World Boxing Council as “Man of the Year” in 2016 for his exemplary dedication and support of Mexico´s City boxing  community by providing free medical care to all members of the boxing family,, including  realtives..plus personalized attention to all the delicate and urgent cases that our champions have had.

During the presentation of this recognition in February 2016, Dr. Mancera announced his interest to return to the capital city  to traditional  of  boxing, and where better than the  Zocalo.

During the year 2016 the boxing activity of the capital grew especially as Promociones del Pueblo and Televisa had at least one card  per month at the traditional Arena Coliseo and also Zanfer and Televisión Azteca promoted the tournament “Looking for the Idol Chilango” and ” Capital of Champions “.

Since the approval of this amazing boxing card, it have been developed several  promotional acts, as part of this Mexico City Government  initiative, among them:

The champions visited the gym “José Sulaimán”, as well as the Gym “Kid Azteca” and the Gym “Raúl Ratón Macías”.

They also visited the Pediatric Hospital of Tacubaya in which they provided a moment of happiness and motivation to children who are recovering.

The Institute of Youth plus three more gyms will be visited, being also  rehabilitated.  Also it will be offered a public training session with all the protagonists of he card.

Don King, the best promoter of boxing history will come to Mexico City to be present at the official presentation and press conference to be held next Thursday March 30 in the presence of all participants of the show and where Five awards will be given to personalities of boxing  by Dr. Mancera, culminating with the official weigh-in on Friday, March 31 at the Zócalo of Mexico City.

OFFICIAL PROGRAM, APRIL 1, 2017

· End of the “Two Nations A Dream”  Program, with a  tournament between Mexican migrants living in Chicago and the finalists of Mexico City.

· Muaythai National Title Fight.

· Two national championships.

· A youth world championship contested by Mexico City citizen, Rocky Hernandez.

· Two women’s WBC world title fights including contested by  Alejandra Jiménez (heavyweight ) and Mariana “Barbie” Juarez, who will seek for the bantamweight championship of the World Boxing Council, which is in the grasps of African Catherine Phiri.

· Dr. Miguel Angel Mancera will recognize all those citizens who once conquered the world championship and will recognize the great promoter Don King for his trajectory in support of Mexico during his 50 years as a boxing promoter.
