Paddy Barnes challenges Cristofer Rosales for the WBC flyweight belt on the undercard
Irish-Boxing.com had it right.
Unable to secure a big-name opponent, Carl Frampton will indeed face WBO #5 Luke Jackson in the first defense of his interim featherweight title, headlining an August 18th show at Belfast’s Windsor Park. The undercard includes Paddy Barnes challenging Cristofer Rosales for the WBC flyweight belt and Tyson Fury taking on TBA.
We went over Frampton (25-1, 14 KO) and Jackson (16-0, 7 KO) in the last article, so let’s focus on the other title fight. Barnes (5-0, 1 KO) won bronze in the ‘08 and ‘12 Olympics, losing to Zou Shiming in the semis both times. He also ran into Zou in the ‘07 Amateur Championships and lost in the quarters.
Bit of a one-sided rivalry, but he’d get the last laugh if he managed to secure a belt.
Rosales (27-3, 18 KO) scored his biggest win and one of 2018’s biggest upsets last April with a TKO of Daigo Higa. He’s 17-1 overall since a 2015 loss to Kal Yafai, the one defeat a decision against Andrew Selby in May 2017.
