Nonito Donaire [38(24)-4(1)] is coming to town.
The four-weight world champion and former pound-for-pound #3 is to fly into Belfast this week for the first press conference for his featherweight clash with Carl Frampton [24(14)-1(0)].
We are over three months out from the Saturday April 21st clash at the SSE Odyssey Arena, and appetites will be whetted before the two fighters go into their respective camps.
‘The Filipino Flash’ and ‘The Jackal’ will come face-to-face for the first time on Wednesday [January 17th] afternoon at a press conference in the Europa Hotel in Belfast City Centre.
Doors open for the conference at 12:30pm and proceedings are set to get underway at 1:00pm.
The event will be open to the public and fans are encouraged to turn up and show their support for Frampton.
The fight in April will be shown live on BT Sport and BoxNation, and will be Frampton’s second under his new team of trainer Jamie Moore, advisors MTK Global, and promoter Queensbury.
Should he win in the battle of the former Fighters of the Year, Frampton will move in line for an IBF title challenge against the winner of the May 19th bout in Leeds between champion Lee Selby and home favourite Josh Warrington.
This proposed bout for Frampton, who turns 31 next month, has been promised to take place at Windsor Park football stadium in the Summer – ensuring that there is plenty riding on the fight with Donaire.
35 year old Donaire represents a big name opponent for Frampton and, while somewhat past his best, remains a dangerous foe for the world title-chasing Tigers Bay man.
