Former UFC strawweight champion Carla Esparza will take on Maryna Moroz on Sunday, June 25th.
Carla Esparza and Maryna Moroz are the latest pair of fighters set to battle at UFC Fight Night: Oklahoma City on Sunday, June 25th. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reported the bout on Thursday. The night’s main card airs live on Fox Sports 1 from the Chesapeake Energy Arena.
Esparza (11-4) is looking to rebound after a split decision defeat to Randa Markos at UFC Halifax in February. The first ever UFC women’s strawweight champion lost her belt to Joanna Jedrzejczyk in March 2015, and didn’t return to the Octagon for another thirteen months. Her last win was by unanimous decision over Juliana Lima at UFC 197.
Moroz (8-1) debuted in the UFC in April 2015, scoring a big armbar win over the favored Joanne Calderwood. The Ukrainian would drop a decision to Valerie Letourneau later that August, but she comes into the Esparza bout on a two-fight winning streak, besting Cristina Stanciu by unanimous decision before getting a split decision nod over Danielle Taylor.
The latest UFC rankings have Esparza at #9 and Moroz at #10.
UFC Fight Night: Oklahoma City does not yet have a main event, but does include fights such as B.J. Penn vs. Dennis Siver, Johny Hendricks vs. Tim Boetsch, and Ilir Latifi vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.
