Carlos Canizales vs. Lu Bin joins Pacquiao-Matthysse card

The crew behind the upcoming July 15th Manny Pacquiao-Lucas Matthysse fight in Kuala Lumpur have released the official fight card, revealing both an extremely busy night for TBA and an attempt by 2016 Olympian Lu Bin to break the men’s record for quickest acquisition of a world title at WBA light flyweight champ Carlos Canizales’ expenseThanks to S_J_G for pointing this out in the GGG-Martirosyan thread.

There’s also an IBO title fight, but let’s not feed their ego.

Lu (1-0, 1 KO) earned some minor viral fame in Rio after prematurely celebrating what he thought was a win over Kenya’s Peter Warui, then made his pro debut in a ten-rounder last September. The guy he beat was 8-9, so this is a tiny bit of a step up.

Canizales (20-0-1, 16 KO) fought Ryoichi Taguchi to a draw in 2016, then beat Reiya Konishi for the WBA title last month after Taguchi was upgraded to “Super” champion. “CCC” is just 25 and, on paper, not as dangerous as fellow titlists Taguchi, Angel Acosta, and Ken Shiro, so it makes sense for Lu to target him.
