The UFC’s return to Vancouver just picked up a stellar main event thanks to a late audible by the promotion.
UFC on Fox 21 in Vancouver just got miles better, but UFC 202 had to give up a marquee bout for that to happen. With the August 27th show lacking a main event, the promotion has decided to move Demian Maia vs. Carlos Conditback a week to serve as the headliner. Neil Davidson of The Canadian Press broke the news:
My guess is that it will be a five-rounder now, but that hasn’t been confirmed.
Condit (30-9) is coming off a razor-thin loss to Robbie Lawler in an epic UFC 195welterweight title fight. He had talked retirement briefly, but a bout with Maia was apparently too good to pass up. Maia (23-6) has won five in a row in impressive fashion, and has been asking for top guys to fight. He certainly gets that in Condit.
The UFC was clearly able to spare some wealth from the 202 card, which is stacked with big fights. As a Vancouver resident, and a massive fan of both Condit and Maia, you have no idea how happy I am right now.
Davidson also announced three other additions to the card
Tickets go on sale to the general public for the Rogers Arena show on Friday.
