DAVAO CITY — Orthodox John Riel Casimero of Ormoc City is now
ready to defend his interim World Boxing Organization World
bantamweight title against challenger Cesar Ramirez of Mexico on Aug.
24 at the Fil Oil Flying V in San Juan Arena, San Juan City.The 30-year
old Casimero (27W-4L, 14KO) is currently training at the MP Boxing
Gym in Davao City under the watchful eyes of chief trainer Raides
“Nonoy” Neri.
He has been sparring with World Boxing Organization Oriental
bantamweight champion Vincent Astrolabio, former WBO Oriental
flyweight champion and current IBF no. 7 contender Ronnie Baldonado
and undefeated Raven Culentas of Davao City.”Pababa na ang akong
sparring. Ganina 11 rounds na (My sparring is going down already now.
It’s 11 rounds now) ” said Casimero.
Casimero holds jogging alternately at the hilly Eden Nature’s Park and
at the Villa Josefina Resort Village in Dumoy, Toril.
He is currently staying at the South Prince Residence in Toril together
with his brother Jayson.He will be fighting the 31-year old Ramirez
(18W-3L, 11KO).Casimero alias “Quadro Alas” won by a knockout over
Ricardo Espinoza Franco of Mexico in the 12th round to win the interim
WBO World bantamweight title last April 20 in California.He TKO’d
Kenya Yamashita of Japan last Feb. 16 in Quezon City.
Casimero TKO’d Charlie Edwards of United Kingdom in the 10th round
in the International Boxing Federation flyweight title in London.Aside
