A pivotal bantamweight matchup between one-time title challenger Cat Zingano and rising contender Marion Reneau highlights a trio of fight announcements for July 14 at UFC Boise.
The UFC unveiled the matchups Friday for the promotion’s debut foray into Idaho.
Zingano (9-3) rides a three-fight losing streak into the event dating back to her 2015 setback at the hands of Ronda Rousey. The 35-year-old fighter returned from a near two-year layoff atUFC 222 and suffered a split decision loss to Ketlen Vieira in her most recent outing.
She’ll look to right her ship against Reneau (9-3-1), a 40-year-old contender who is unbeaten over her last four UFC bouts.
Reneau’s recent run to contendership has been highlighted by KO/TKO stoppages over Milana Dudieva and Talita Bernardo, plus the biggest win of her career — a second-round submission over Sara McMann — which she scored in February at UFC on Fox 28.
In addition to Zingano vs. Reneau, the UFC announced a women’s flyweight bout between Liz Carmouche (11-6) and former Invicta FC champion Jennifer Maia (15-4-1) for UFC Boise, as well as a flyweight bout between Justin Scoggins (11-4) and UFC newcomer Said Nurmagomedov (11-1).
Carmouche, 34, lost her flyweight debut in December via split decision to Alexis Davis. Maia, 29, a UFC debutante who was the former 125-pound champion of Invicta FC, has won six consecutive fights, including a split decision over Roxanne Modafferi.
Scoggins, 25, has lost back-to-back contests via second-round submission. Nurmagomedov, 26, is a friend and countryman of Khabib Nurmagomedov’s but is unrelated to the UFC lightweight champion. He rides a five-fight win streak into his Octagon debut.
UFC Boise takes place at the CenturyLink Arena in Boise, Idaho. A main event for the card has yet to be announced.
