Unbeaten Mexican Super Middleweight Mario Abel Cazares (12-0, 5 KO’s) of Rosarito, Baja California, defeated vía 6th round unanimous technical decision veteran former champ Julio César Chávez Jr. (51-5-1, 33 KO’s) of Sinaloa in a 10-round non-title battle today in Tijuana, México.

In the eyes of fans, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Quits yet again this time in the 6th Round LIVE on #DAZN

Chavez Jr. sustained a cut from what was a clear, well-timed damaging blow from Cazares

The cut was above the left eye and Chavez Jr began complaining to the Referee, telling him that is was a head-butt.

It was not. The rough impact was clear and legal.

Even so, Chavez Jr. was able to get it a reversed into an “Accidental Head-Butt,” contrary to what instant replays show.

As a result, ringside judges scored the bout 57-56 (twice) and 59-54, all in favor of the 30-year-old Cazares who claimed the most important win of his boxing career.

Chávez Jr. – son of legendary Méxican hall-of-Famer Julio César Chávez – was badly needing a sweeping victory over the less-experienced Cazares after being stopped in 5 rounds by former champ Daniel Jacobs (36-3, 30 KO’s) last December in Phoenix.

That was not meant to be, and now “Junior” needs to think what to do about his future in boxing as dad Chávez Sr. witnessed yet another rather strange fight from his son.
