Following their official press conference, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. admitted to the media that there is a clause in his contract with Canelo Alvarez which will penalize him $1M for every pound he weighs over 165lbs, with the contracted weight set at 164.5lbs. The first $1M will be for anything up to 165.5lbs, and the second million starts at the 165.6lb mark, reports RingTV.

There’s currently a lot of speculation that Chavez Jr. will have trouble making the contracted weight limit considering that he hasn’t weighed-in under 165lbs in almost 5 years — not to mention being notoriously undiciplined in training. Chavez Jr., though, has no concerns about hitting 164.5lb, saying he’s currently around 180lbs.

“I’m good for the weight,” Chavez reassured those in the room. “I know there’s a lot of attention for this. I think this is the key to winning this fight, to take care of my body.”

Canelo, meanwhile, has never officially fought over 155lbs, although he is well known to blow up significantly after rehydrating.
