At the Marcel-Cerdan Sports Palace in Levallois, World Boxing Council silver lightweight champion Yvan Mendy, KO`d Mexican Jesus Arevalo, in the eighth round.
This was his 40th win in 45 fights, including four losses and one draw. Mendy intelligently dominated the fight starting with a slow pace, but as the rounds passed he warmed to his task, showed his speed and the power of his fists.
In the eighth round, he landed a powerful right hook on the point of Arevalo`s chin, bringing down the curtain. Afterwards he said:
“The objective was to overcome my opponent little by little. It was like a chess game, and very important for me to achieve a stoppage win. I hope to have an opportunity for the absolute world crown soon. I`m now at a great stage in my career and I am ready to reach the top.”
