Nine years have passed since the WBC celebrated the 46th world convention in China….a country of millenary culture, exquisite traditions yet also innovation and progress.
The City of Chengdu in Sichuan province, famous for its panda sanctuary, received us with great hospitality making this convention unique, planting the seed of a promising boxing future.
Since then boxing has developed, blossomed and flourished in China, joining other great nations such as Japan, Thailand and South Korea, indicating Eastern promise.
Proof and fruition of this happened with the first world championship fight in China, in which Xiong Zhao Zhong was unanimously crowned WBC minumweight champion, at Kunming City Stadium, history becoming the first Chinese world champion.
With the passage of time, boxing gained strength, so much so, that the annual convention of the WBC, again returned in 2015, this time in the City of Kunming.
Gyms are emerging in the city, packed with keen young people who dream of becoming the new boxing idols.
Yiran Li is one of those young prodigies. Aged 21 he became WBC youth champion in the featherweight division after beating Thai Thanawat Yancharoen with a brilliant performance at Xi’an City Wall West on 29th September.
Yiran who debuted prior to that on April 29, has impressed and delighted with his power, winning his four pro bouts all by KO, becoming a fan favourite.
Also, prior to this fight there was a seminar for ring officials which created considerable interest and enjoyed a great participation.
