“Chon” Zepeda poised to defend WBC superlight Silver title

José “Chon” Zepeda, the WBC super lightweight Silver Champion, is looking for another world title shot, while Josue “The Prodigy” Vargas, born in Puerto Rico and raised in the Bronx, hopes that a win in the main event in front his people will be the ticket to earn a title opportunity.

Zepeda and Vargas will meet in a 10-round super lightweight main event on Saturday, October 30 at the Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden. Zepeda is ranked No. 2 on the WBC lists and Vargas, the winner of 13 consecutive bouts, hopes to knock “Chon” off from his elevated spot.

Zepeda-Vargas and a 10-round bantamweight clash between undefeated Puerto Rican knockout artist Carlos “Purin” Caraballo and former world title challenger Jonas Sultan will air live exclusively on ESPN + beginning at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT.
