Omotoso (27-3, 21 KO) was once a welterweight prospect with a bit of buzz, fighting with Top Rank. After several undercard wins where he seemed to be stagnating a bit, he was himself stepped up pretty big in competition in 2013, when he faced Jessie Vargas on the Bradley-Provodnikov HBO card.
Omotoso was competitive, even dropped Vargas in the second round, but the Nigerian-born fighter lost the decision, and things just never really got going for him. He’s 4-2 since then, with losses to Sammy Vasquez and Jamal James, and hasn’t fought since Dec. 2017, when he beat veteran Freddy Hernandez.
He’s looking forward to getting another chance to bust a prospect bubble. He came close against James, losing a split decision after putting James on the canvas early.
“I got the call to fight a young, undefeated fighter in Booker and I said bring it on,” said Omotoso. “I’m really happy he took the fight because most people say I’m too dangerous and too tough. I will give it all I got.
“When I go to the ring I put all my effort and training into the fight. That’s the way this sport is. I know he’s going to come in with all he’s got, but the toughest man will win.”
