Chris Eubank Jr says he was never given a contract for a fight with Gennady Golovkin.
With the surprising news that Gennady Golovkin will face Kell Brook on September 10, one of the big questions is what happened to Golovkin’s expected fight with Chris Eubank Jr?
Eubank tweeted this out this afternoon:
I haven’t been shown one contract since my fight with GGG was announced. I’m still ready & waiting to sign. Fighting Brook is a joke #2Small

Eubank (23-1, 18 KO) and Brook share the same promoter, Matchroom Boxing. If Eubank is telling the truth here, the whole thing would seem very odd indeed, and could signal an early end to the Matchroom/Eubank relationship, which has already soured once before. Or it might not, but wild speculation is fun.
Anyway, the fight we’re getting is not the fight anyone was expecting, and Eubank is pleading his case that it wasn’t his avoiding signing a contract that made Golovkin-Brook a reality. How this all really came about, I’m sure we’ll learn more in the coming days and weeks, and it could be interesting, the fallout from this announcement. We’ll just have to wait and see what goes down.
