The Erkan Teper Comeback Tour has hit a bit of a snag, as the heavy-handed German lost a split decision yesterday to non-contender Christian Hammer in Hamburg.

Teper (16-1, 10 KO) had previously carved his way to the edge of contendership with 2015 wins over Johann Duhaupas and David Price, but was caught with all of the drugs after testing positive for some of the drugs following the Price knockout. He returned in July to hand Derric Rossey his seventh loss in nine fights and, despite coming in eight pounds over his previous career-high weight, was expected to thoroughly handle Hammer.

That didn’t happen.

Hammer (20-4, 11 KO) came in on a two-fight winning streak over Sherman Williams and Michael Sprott and had been thoroughly trounced by Tyson Fury beforehand. His biggest win was over Kevin Johnson.

Let this be a lesson to you all: cheaters only sometimes prosper.

Elsewhere on the card, Swedish heavyweight prospect Adrian Granat scored his thirteenth knockout in fourteen wins with a sixth-round stoppage of Franz Rill. Granat’s a big boy at 6’7.5″ and still young at 26; he could be worth keeping an eye on.
