A fight for the WBC interim super lightweight title is significantly closer, as number two ranked Regis Prograis and Number four Viktor Postol, did a face off, and each received a medal at the World Boxing Council’s 55th Convention, in Baku, Azerbaijan.
If Champion Terence Crawford vacates the crown, then number one contender Amir Imam would fight number three Jose Carlos Ramirez for the vacant championship. And Regis would take on Viktor!
It’s taken Regis two grueling travel days to reach Azerbaijan from Brazil, but he’s convinced all the air miles will produce a well timed opportunity.
He enthused: “I’ve got a potential match up. Most likely it’s going to happen. It’ll be a real good, and it’s the fight that I wanted for a long time. An early Christmas present I guess! Viktor has only lost once, to Crawford and he’s excellent. Viktor had the WBC belt he’s hungry, and he wants it back, and I….want it!”
Regis is convinced he’ll also one day fight Terence Crawford. He said: “I’d fight Terence and bring it to him. He’s a good boxer, but I haven’t seen him get into a real fight.
“I know how strong I am. I’m durable and can take punches, but I have defence at the same time. I’d bring it to him and see how he’s deals under real pressure. He definitely won’t wander around the ring with me!”
