Claressa Shields isn’t content to wait for Christina Hammer. The two-division champion, who defeated Hannah Rankin just two days ago, has joined the final HBO Boxing event on December 8th, taking on WBO super middleweight champ Femke Hermans.
The fight will take place at middleweight, where Shields (7-0, 2 KO) holds the IBF, WBA, and WBC belts.
Hermans (9-1, 3 KO) lost to Alicia Napoleon in a bid for the WBA belt in March, but went on to defeat Nikki Adler for the WBO title two months later. She’s since picked up a couple of wins over marginal opposition in her native Belgium.
Definitely not the sort of foe you’d expect a champion to face on a month’s notice. Props to “T-Rex.”
The HBO card is headlined by unified welterweight champ Cecilia Braekhus defending her belts against Aleksandra Lopes, while Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez continues his comeback tour against rugged veteran Pedro Guevara.
