Two top ranked strawweight contenders in Claudia Gadelha and Karolina Kowalkiewiczare set to do battle at UFC 212. The promotion officially announced the news on Monday, and it is expected to be part of the main card of the June 3rd pay-per-view event happening in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Gadelha and Kowalkiewicz, who both dropped entertaining decision losses to champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk, are currently ranked #1 and #2 on the UFC’s strawweight rankings respectively.
Kowalkiewicz faced Jedrzejczyk in her last fight at UFC 205, while Gadelha has already rebounded from her second loss to the champion with a decision over Cortney Casey last November.
UFC 212 will be headlined by a featherweight title unification between Jose Aldo and interim champ Max Holloway. The event will be hosted at the Jeunesse Arena (formerly the HSBC Arena), with more bouts for the Rio de Janeiro card expected to be announced shortly.
