CM Punk wins defamation lawsuit four days before UFC 225

CM Punk is currently scheduled for his second UFC fight against Mike Jackson at UFC 225. Apparently, he was also facing another battle outside the Octagon.

The former pro-wrestling superstar (named Phil Brooks in real life) was slapped with a defamation lawsuit by Dr. Chris Amman of the WWE. According to ProWrestlingSheet.com, it stemmed from the comments Punk made during the Colt Cabana podcast in 2014, where he claimed Dr. Amman “did not properly treat” a lump on his backside that “made him ill over an extended period.” As it turned out, the lump was actually a staph infection.

Punk mentioned Dr. Amman’s name on the podcast as the erring party, which supposedly “caused distress” to the doctor, having felt that his reputation was damaged after receiving backlash from fans.

According to MMAjunkie, Dr. Amman was seeking $4 million, along with additional punitive damages. On Tuesday, Punk was given a not guilty verdict in the trial that took place at the Circuit Court of Cook County in Illinois.

The decision came just four days prior to Punk’s fight against Jackson, which takes place this Saturday, June 9th, in his hometown of Chicago.
